# Fees

What a custom DAF program costs to your firm, advisors, and clients.

[The Advisor Guidebook](https://advisorguide.charityvest.org/) is a great resource for your team to review detailed information on client fees associated with your custom donor-advised fund program.&#x20;

At a firm level, there are no setup fees or other platform costs. If your firm plans to white-label, there may be some minimum annual fees involved.&#x20;

For your ease of reference, here are the key considerations for client fees related to Charityvest for Advisors:

* **Account types.** Your advisors can choose between two DAF account types for each of their clients: Invested (default) or Cash. Fees only apply to Invested accounts. Note that upon account invitation, clients will automatically be enrolled in an Invested account. Advisors can switch client accounts to Cash at any time.&#x20;
* **Advisory fees.** For Invested client accounts, you have the option to assess an advisory fee on their donor-advised fund account, automatically deducted from their DAF balance on a monthly basis and distributed to your firm. For all Invested DAF accounts, the advisory fee is selected by your firm. Your advisors can waive this advisory fee for individual clients on a case-by-case basis.
* **Admin fees.** Invested client accounts will be subject to an admin fee, automatically assessed monthly and deducted from their DAF balance. This fee is paid to the DAF sponsor, Charityvest, Inc. (EIN: 81-2771871) to provide and service the donor-advised fund. Charityvest admin fees are industry standard, starting at 60bps (with a minimum fee of $100/year) and blending down based on fund balance.

# Getting started

What to expect in establishing a custom donor-advised fund platform powered by Charityvest.

To set up Charityvest for Advisors as part of your firm's custom giving program, you will need to complete:

* [Firm-level legal agreements](#firm-level-legal-agreements)
* [Onboarding questionnaire](#onboarding-questionnaire)
* [Firm Admin training](#firm-admin-training)

You will also have access to [marketing opportunities](#marketing-opportunities) at your discretion.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Wondering how long it will take to get set up?**

As much time as you need! Once our success team has the inputs they need from your firm, your custom-branded donor-advised fund program can be ready in a matter of days.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

## Firm-level legal agreements

A representative from your firm will be required to sign the *Charityvest for Advisors Firm Agreement* with Charityvest, Inc.

This agreement outlines the nature of the relationship between Charityvest, Inc. and the investment advisory services provided by your firm to your clients via your custom giving platform.

Beyond this agreement, your advisors do not need to complete any forms as part of participating in your custom donor-advised fund program. Advisors and clients will simply need to accept the terms and conditions of their online accounts.

## Onboarding questionnaire

Once your firm has committed to establishing a custom donor-advised fund program via Charityvest for Advisors, our success team will invite your firm to complete a brief onboarding questionnaire (via Typeform). A representative from your team will be prompted to submit basic branding preferences and company information. Within 1-2 days of receipt, our success team will finalize your branded environment.

## Firm Admin training

Once your custom-branded donor-advised fund has been created, our success team will invite your firm to a 1-hour live call to instruct any firm representatives responsible for program administration on creating custom investment portfolios, establishing a fee schedule, and initiating advisor invitations.

Additional training is available as needed for your team of advisors, in the form of office hours, webinars, in-app product tours, ongoing support, and access to the [Charityvest for Advisors guide](https://advisorguide.charityvest.org/).

## Marketing opportunities

We believe your firm will be best positioned to craft the story you wish to tell with your custom giving program. However, should it be of value, our marketing team is available to collaborate on the following initiatives:

* Custom collateral (i.e. 2-pagers)
* Social media launch announcement
* Published article/case study
* Internal promotions (ex. advisor incentives and events)
* Partnership press release
* Educational articles and videos as requested
* Guest author opportunities

# Enable multi-custodial DAF accounts

Expand your program's reach with external custodians

Your custom DAF platform leverages an integrated, self-clearing broker-dealer, [Alpaca](https://alpaca.markets/broker-dealers), for simplified [on-platform DAF investments](https://advisorguide.charityvest.org/how-advisors-use-charityvest-for-advisors/enable-investing). For sophisticated clients who require external, separately managed accounts (SMAs), you can enable multi-custodial donor-advised fund accounts through your custom DAF program.

Multi-custodial functionality enables your firm’s custom DAF program to display client assets held at external custodians directly within your branded DAF platform.

This capability allows you to provide clients with a complete view of their philanthropic assets—regardless of where they're held—while maintaining your firm's existing custodial relationships.

Learn more about multi-custodial capabilities for your firm's custom DAF program below:

* [Powered by BridgeFT](#powered-by-bridge-ft)
* [Benefits of multi-custodial accounts](#benefits-of-multi-custodial-accounts)
* [How billing works on multi-custodial DAF accounts](#how-billing-works-on-multi-custodial-daf-accounts)
* [How to configure multi-custodial DAF accounts](#firm-program-managers-how-to-configure-multi-custodial-accounts-for-your-custom-daf-program)

## Powered by BridgeFT <a href="#powered-by-bridge-ft" id="powered-by-bridge-ft"></a>

[Charityvest](https://advisorguide.charityvest.org/master/the-charityvest-partnership) partners with [BridgeFT](https://www.bridgeft.com/), the industry's leading API-first wealth infrastructure platform, to enable seamless connectivity to external custodians. BridgeFT's technology aggregates data from multiple custodians through a single API connection, allowing you to display balance information without building individual integrations.

## Benefits of multi-custodial accounts <a href="#benefits-of-multi-custodial-accounts" id="benefits-of-multi-custodial-accounts"></a>

Multi-custodial capabilities allow your firm to:

* Scale your custom DAF program without having to move existing client assets from their current custodians
* Strengthen your brand by consolidating all DAF visibility under your firm's platform

Your clients and team benefit from viewing all DAF balances in one trusted, branded interface—eliminating the need to access multiple platforms just to check account values.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Looking to manage client external DAF accounts?** External account management still requires accessing the custodian's platform for external grant processing, external asset transfers, external investment rebalancing, and external transaction history.
{% endhint %}

## How billing works on multi-custodial DAF accounts

Once you enable multi-custodial accounts for your firm, you will be able to manage DAF investments on behalf of your clients both on and off-platform.

#### On-Platform Billing

For billing on each client's on-platform "Giving Wallet" balance, your existing custom DAF program billing will apply, including:

* **Advisory fees:** Your customary investment management fees, accrued daily and assessed monthly on each fund balance. These fees are remitted by our team to your firm's connected bank account in the month following the fee accrual period.
* **Admin fees:** The fees collected on behalf of Charityvest, accrued daily and assessed monthly on each fund balance.

#### External Custodian Billing

For billing on each client's off-platform external custodian balance, you have more flexibility with billing:

* **Advisory fees:** Your customary investment management fees collected by your firm directly, as with any other client brokerage account. These fees can differ from your on-platform fee structure, with a cap of 150 bps.
* **Admin fees:** The fees collected on behalf of Charityvest, accrued daily and assessed monthly. These fees are calculated by our team and one consolidated invoice is delivered to your firm program manager in the month following the fee accrual period.

## How to configure multi-custodial DAF accounts <a href="#firm-program-managers-how-to-configure-multi-custodial-accounts-for-your-custom-daf-program" id="firm-program-managers-how-to-configure-multi-custodial-accounts-for-your-custom-daf-program"></a>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Curious how much time it will take?** The total estimated timeline for initial setup is approximately 2-3 weeks from initiation.
{% endhint %}

If you are a firm program manager, and wish to set up multi-custodial accounts under your custom DAF program, contact your Charityvest relationship manager or the Charityvest support team (<support@charityvest.org>) for guidance on completing these steps per custodian:

* [Schwab](/getting-started/enable-multi-custodial-daf-accounts/schwab-daf-configuration)
* [Pershing](https://advisorpartnerguide.charityvest.org/getting-started/enable-multi-custodial-daf-accounts/pershing-daf-configuration)
* Fidelity<br>

Multi-custodial connectivity helps differentiate your DAF program by meeting clients where they are—within their existing custodial relationships—while providing the modern, unified experience they value.<br>

# Schwab DAF configuration

Schwab-specific instructions for enabling multi-custodial DAF accounts

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Curious how much time it will take?** The total estimated timeline for initial setup is approximately 2-3 weeks from initiation.
{% endhint %}

If you are a firm program manager, and wish to set up Schwab multi-custodial accounts under your custom DAF program, contact your Charityvest relationship manager or the Charityvest support team (<support@charityvest.org>) for guidance on completing these steps:<br>

1. **Open new client Schwab DAF accounts** (titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.) for each client.
2. **Establish a** [**new firm SL Master account**](#firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master) via Schwab (up to 4 business days).
3. **Complete** [**ROI authorization**](#firm-program-managers-release-of-information-roi-authorization) for BridgeFT (up to 8 business days).
4. **Connect your new Schwab client DAF accounts** to your custom DAF platform with help from your Charityvest relationship manager (up to 3 business days).
5. **Validate and test account balance displays** alongside the Charityvest support team.

Once these steps are completed, this capability will be available to your firm. The SL Master account setup and ROI authorization **only needs to be completed once per firm**.

For any *future client external DAF accounts*, desired after the initial setup process, you may contact your Charityvest relationship manager to coordinate:

* Opening new client Schwab DAF accounts (titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.).
* Assigning new client Schwab DAF accounts (titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.) to your firm's Schwab SL Master.

### Open new client Schwab DAF accounts <a href="#firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master" id="firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master"></a>

The first step in the process to enabling multi-custodial DAF accounts is to create new brokerage accounts on behalf of each of your clients.

You will need to open a unique Schwab account per client interested in a multi-custodial DAF arrangement. However, these accounts will be titled in the name of the DAF sponsor, Charityvest, Inc.

When creating the account, contact your Charityvest relationship manager to ensure you have the proper details on the forms:

* **Name**: Charityvest, Inc.
* **Address:** C/O Foundation Source, 55 Walls Drive, Suite 302, Fairfield, CT 06824
* **Tax ID:** 81-2771871

The account opening forms must be signed by the President of Charityvest, Inc. Your Charityvest relationship manager can assist in getting this form signed.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Opening a new client DAF account?** Make sure the account is titled in the name of the DAF sponsoring organization, Charityvest, Inc.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### Establishing a SL Master <a href="#firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master" id="firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master"></a>

Once the new client accounts have been created, your firm will need to establish one entirely new Schwab SL Master account, which will:

* Create a dedicated container for your firm's DAF clients
* Maintain complete separation from other firms' accounts
* Provide maximum control over account organization

Your firm will need to create a new Schwab SL Master that is specific to your firm's custom DAF program, as our system cannot accommodate SL Master accounts that include account data unrelated to DAF giving (i.e. not titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.).

{% hint style="success" %}
**Already have a FA Master or SL Masters?** This new SL Master should be added to the new client DAF accounts *in addition* to any of your firm's existing FA Master or SL Masters.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prefer to skip the SL Master setup process entirely?** In the future, Charityvest, Inc. may establish an omnibus master account with Schwab. If interested, please contact your Charityvest relationship manager for more information.
{% endhint %}

### **Schwab** Release of Information (ROI) Authorization <a href="#firm-program-managers-release-of-information-roi-authorization" id="firm-program-managers-release-of-information-roi-authorization"></a>

As a firm program manager, follow these instructions to initiate the ROI authorization process for BridgeFT once the new Schwab SL master account has been established.

{% hint style="info" %}
**For ease of reference**, here is BridgeFT’s [official instructional documentation](https://docs.bridgeft.com/docs/data-feed-guide-schwab#:~:text=Call%20the%20Schwab%20Advisor%20Platform,their%20data%20feed%20for%20BridgeFT.) on Schwab data feed authorization.
{% endhint %}

* [ ] Your firm will receive an email notification to sign the form via DocuSign within 1-2 days of submission. If the DocuSign request is not received within 2 business days, contact Schwab’s advisor platform support group (888-306-7327) with your SL Master and case number.
* [ ] Once received, open that email and click the link on the email notification to provide your signature.
* [ ] After the Docusign is completed, Schwab will release data to BridgeFT within 2-4 business days. Please notify your Charityvest relationship manager when confirmed.

### **Connect your new Schwab client DAF accounts**

Once your firm's Release of Information forms have been processed, the Charityvest support team can assist with mapping the Schwab client DAF accounts to the on-platform client DAF accounts:

* [ ] **Contact your Charityvest relationship manager** to share the on-platform email address associated with each Schwab account number.
* [ ] **The Charityvest support team will monitor the external data feed** to confirm the appropriate data is received and connect each new Schwab account to existing on-platform accounts.

### **Validate and test account balance displays**

With the external account mapping process complete, clients can view their entire DAF balance, both on-platform and Schwab, via their account dashboard. Your firm will have access to view individual as well as aggregate account values, all in one place.

Both the Charityvest support team and your firm can verify that the account balance displays are accurate, and report back any issues as needed.

# Pershing DAF configuration

Pershing-specific instructions for enabling multi-custodial DAF accounts

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Curious how much time it will take?** The total estimated timeline for initial setup is approximately 2-3 weeks from initiation.
{% endhint %}

If you are a firm program manager, and wish to set up Pershing multi-custodial accounts under your custom DAF program, contact your Charityvest relationship manager or the Charityvest support team (<support@charityvest.org>) for guidance on completing these steps:<br>

1. **Open new client Pershing DAF accounts** (titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.) for each client.
2. **Establish one or more new Advisor Codes (IP Numbers)** via Pershing.
3. **Complete ROI authorization** for BridgeFT (up [to 10 business days).](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]
4. **Connect your new Pershing client DAF accounts** to your custom DAF platform with help from your Charityvest relationship manager (up to 3 business days).
5. **Validate and test account balance displays** alongside the Charityvest support team.

For any *future client external DAF accounts*, desired after the initial setup process, you may contact your Charityvest relationship manager to coordinate:

* Opening new client Pershing DAF accounts (titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.) on the Pershing platform.
* Creating or assigning DAF-specific Advisor Codes (IP Numbers) to the new client Pershing DAF accounts.
* Completing ROI authorization for BridgeFT for new Advisor Codes (IP Numbers) as needed.

### Open new client Pershing DAF accounts <a href="#firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master" id="firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master"></a>

The first step in the process to enabling multi-custodial DAF accounts is to create new Pershing brokerage accounts on behalf of each of your clients.

You will need to open a unique account per client interested in a multi-custodial DAF arrangement. However, these accounts will be titled in the name of the DAF sponsor, Charityvest, Inc.

When creating the account, contact your Charityvest relationship manager to ensure you have the proper details on the forms:

* **Name**: Charityvest, Inc.
* **Address:** C/O Foundation Source, 55 Walls Drive, Suite 302, Fairfield, CT 06824
* **Tax ID:** 81-2771871

The account opening forms must be signed by the President of Charityvest, Inc. Your Charityvest relationship manager can assist in getting this form signed.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Opening a new client DAF account?** Make sure the account is titled in the name of the DAF sponsoring organization, Charityvest, Inc.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### Establishing new Advisor Codes (IP Numbers) <a href="#firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master" id="firm-program-managers-establishing-a-sl-master"></a>

Once the new client accounts have been created, your firm will need to establish at least one entirely new Advisor Code (known as an IP Number at Pershing), which will:

* Create a dedicated container for your firm's DAF clients
* Maintain complete separation from other client accounts
* Provide maximum control over account organization

Your firm will need to create at least one new Advisor Code / IP Number that is specific to your firm's custom DAF program, as our system cannot accommodate Advisor Codes that include account data unrelated to DAF giving (i.e. not titled in the name of the DAF sponsor: Charityvest, Inc.).

{% hint style="success" %}
**Already have an Advisor Code (IP Number)?** This new Advisor Code / IP Number should be added to the new client DAF accounts *in addition* to any of your firm's existing Advisor Codes / IP Numbers.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Looking to separate DAF clients by their advisor?** At a minimum, you will need to create one new Advisor Code / IP Number for the aggregate of all Pershing DAF accounts. However, if you wish for further segmentation across your firm's advisors, you have the option to create multiple Advisor Codes / IP Numbers to represent each advisor with a DAF portfolio. Once created, you can assign the appropriate new Advisor Code / IP Number per their managed Pershing DAF account.
{% endhint %}

### Pershing Release of Information (ROI) Authorization <a href="#firm-program-managers-release-of-information-roi-authorization" id="firm-program-managers-release-of-information-roi-authorization"></a>

In order to initiate the ROI authorization process for BridgeFT, your team responsible for account opening must send an email to <service@bny.com>. You may also copy your Pershing relationship manager if desired.

This email must request Bridge Financial Technology (Bridge FT) to gain access to the **new DAF-specific Advisor Code(s) / IP Number(s).** You must include all Advisor Codes / IP Numbers that are associated with the new Pershing DAF accounts.

Before sending the ROI authorization email, contact your Charityvest relationship manager to request the **BridgeFT Pershing Transmission Request Form**. Charityvest will prepare and provide a completed form to your team. You will need to attach this form to the ROI authorization email below.

Here is the exact format required in the email to <service@bny.com>:

{% hint style="success" %}
**Need to authorize multiple Advisor Codes / IP Numbers?** You may include multiple Advisor Codes / IP Numbers in a single ROI data request email.
{% endhint %}

### **Connect your new external client DAF accounts**

Once your firm's Release of Information requests have been processed, the Charityvest support team can assist with mapping the external client DAF accounts to the on-platform client DAF accounts:

* [ ] **Contact your Charityvest relationship manager** to share the on-platform email address associated with each Pershing DAF account number.
* [ ] **The Charityvest support team will monitor the external data feed** to confirm the appropriate data is received and connect each new Pershing DAF account to existing on-platform accounts.

### **Validate and test account balance displays**

With the Pershing DAF account mapping process complete, clients can view their entire DAF balance, both on-platform and external, via their account dashboard. Your firm will have access to view individual as well as aggregate account values, all in one place.

Both the Charityvest support team and your firm can verify that the account balance displays are accurate, and report back any issues as needed.
